Buenos Aires Hardcore Report
Hello my name is Enrique, and I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina's capital city. I'm 25 years old, my friends call me "Checho". Buenos Aires hardcore scene started in the beginning of 1989 with bands which were exposed to a New York style with a crossover style. The bands who have been playing or keeping the flame of hardcore alive are:
EXISTENCIA DE ODIO: Possibly it's the first band to appear in 1988/1989, they played a NYHC style, influenced by crossover style kinda like D.R. I., this band broke up in December of 1996. Discography: "Un paso al frente" cass., "Nuevas Fuezas" cass./CD, "Religion" cass, "Esperando la redencion" CD, also you can listen to them on many compilations.
DIFERENTES ACTIDUES JUVENILES: This is one the most popular bands of the scene. They are from Catalinal Sur, and they play a NYHC style out of the middle of the 80's, like Sick of it all or Judge. BUSCANDO OTRA DIVERSION: This band started in 1991 and after a lot of changes they played a fast style influenced by INSTED, later their music turned more into a crossover style. NO DEMUESTRA INTERES: This band started in 1990 and since that the band has suffered changes in their members and a severe change in their music. They started playing a fast melodic hardcore, then they turned into more of a slow hardcore, and finally they play a metal of 70's style. Discography: "Extremo Sur" Cass., "Dias de Furia" CD, "Mensaje preciso de imagen" CD.
MINORIA ACTIVA: They started in 1992. This band has the character of having two singers. After some changes in line-up, they're still in action waiting to release their first CD. AUTOCONTROL: This band was formed in April of 1993. All their members are straightedge. This band is involved in the "Straight Edge Liberation Cooperative". They've got social lyrics and they play a new school style. Julian(vocals) writes a zine called "Tiempo de Cambio" and Alejandro(bass) writes another called "Accion Social" and also he has an independent label called "Carisma Records". INDIFERENCIA: Formed in 1993 they play a NYHC style(like Warzone). This band released their first cassette EP "Respirando violencia". Santiago(bass) has his own record label "Utopia Records". Contact: Look Buscando Otra Diversion address.
720°: This band was formed in July of 1994. They play a hardcore punk style like Exploited/Sick of it all in early times, now they are playing a new school style but always with a heavy guitar sound. In 1996 they released a cassette EP with 4 songs, in June of 1997 they released a cassette split with Redencion 911(Chile) edited by the label "Actitud Mental Positiva Records" (I'm involved in this label). VIEJA ESCUELA: Straightedge old school band. formed at the end of 1995 and released their first cassette EP with 6 songs in may of 1997, and Duende(drums) is involved in Actitud Mental Positiva Records. Contact: at 720° address.
FUN PEOPLE: One of the most active bands, 100% DIY. They meet the biggest aduence. Playing a melodic hardcore punk style, they have done tours in the USA and Brasil. They have their own record label called "Las Feos Records" and a zine called "Fun People" too. Fun People has released two CD's by Frost Bite Records (an Independent Record Label) and in the early 97' they released a 7" called "El aborto ilegal asesina mi libertad" with a band called "She Devils". BHAKTI: Krishna core band. They spread Krishna conscience, musically influenced by 108 and hardcore's heavy guitar sound. They've got a sold out demo. Contact: Andonaegui 2054-(1431) Capital Federal.
Other bands are: Despertar (slow hardcore), Ban This (brutal hardcore), Otra Salida (NYHC style), Fuerza y Desicion (new school mixed with old school), Pensar o Morir (NYHC with a bit of funk), Eternidad (new school HC like Snapcase), Actitud de Cambio (slow heavy hardcore), Flores del Sol (slow hardcore).
About fanzines there are a bunch of them, but about hardcore/punk I can appoint the following:
